How wonderful to have such a great experience. Something Atarau will never forget. I love the Tika Tanu song, poem. What widsom to give your sons. What a beautiful smile on Atarau’s face. Beatific.

A long time ago he and Jermaine of Flight of the Conchords did a show called “The Untold Tales of Maui”. He said he really liked the article but that he was much too shy to be Maui.

I think it says a lot about the character of Maori people that no one volunteered themselves – only other people could convince them to do it. Humbleness and modesty rule in this culture where a heck of a lot of them can pick up a guitar and sing in front of a heap of people like it’s nothing, but to become Maui? That takes other people speaking highly of you.

Big ups to everyone for making this happen and especially to my husband for putting up with my crazy party madness.
