Kahurangi is now feeding fully from the breast, with no top-ups anymore, so the feeding tube has come out. Which means all things going well he will be coming home in the next day or so.

Kahurangi – Pronounciation Guide for Americans
Laurel asked me to put a little pronounciation guide for saying Kahurangi, (and Kahu for short) so here goes.
Kah hoo rahn gee (‘g’ as in gas, rather than as in george)
Kahu sounds like wahoo (excited yell)
Rangi close to rung (as in ladder) ee
Thats trying to do it for an american accent 🙂

First Bath
Kahurangi is doing good, he had his first bath today, and successfully fed from a bottle too. So he is breastfeeding and bottle feeding, so the feeding tube should be able to be taken out soon, yay!
Kahurangi Update
Kahurangi is still down in the neo natal unit, but he’s doing fine. He managed to feed from the breast for all the feeds today. So he should be able to come upstairs in the next day or two. Laurel is doing good too, shes walking around freely and getting enough sleep.
He’s Arrived
Kahurangi James Lee Barr Cormack, made an early arrival at 2.55pm today (20/11/06) NZ time. He weighed in at 3.040kg, which is pretty darn good for 36 weeks. He’s doing fine, hes down in the neo-natal unit but has successfully managed to breastfeed. Mum is fine too, in fact they are both sleeping which is why I could sneak out and update the blog and get some sleep myself.
Not sure how long they’ll be at the hospital, probably 2 or 3 days, until they are sure everything is fine.
Laurel’s waters broke at about 1.30am on the 20th .. so we rang the obstetrician who told us to head in to the delivery suites. We got there about 2am ish, and after monitoring for a while went upstairs to the ward. By 8am laurel had dilated to 5cm’s so it was back down to the delivery suites we went.
And by 2pm she was fully dilated, and by 2.55pm Kahurangi was born. I think we are both still in a slight state of shock, we thought we had a month to go. I blame the xmas parade yesterday, I reckon he got confused, thought it was xmas and thought crap im late, im getting out.
Anyway photos to come when Ive had some sleep.
Update
Kahurangi shows what he thinks of the feeding tube. He yanked it out and made this sign when the nurse said she was going to put it back in.

Word to the wise, don’t dig out the side of a hill, until you are sure it’s summer
Our neighbours have learnt this lesson, after all their freshly laid pipes and concrete cracked and slid down the hill last night. And they weren’t the only place to suffer damage in the big downpour. Plenty of slips all around the hills around Island Bay.
Only a month to go
Just over a month to go until Crayon is scheduled to arrive. If he’s like his dad, he will be exactly on time, if he’s like his mum, he will be fashionably late.

We went to see this today, and I have to say I loved it. If you ever saw the castle, while this isn’t as good, it comes close in parts. Go see it, its good.
