christmas presents. So here goes.

  • Battle for Middle Earth PC Game
  • Return of the King Extended Edition DVD
  • The Family Guy season 1 or 2 DVD
  • Robosapien

Thats all I have so far.

Spelling suggestions

David Bigwood made a really good suggestion today about adding a spelling
suggestions feature into Koha. Much like the way google works. I think we
could use the soundex feature in MySQL to do something neat. In fact I’m
going to give that a whirl right now.

Koha

UPDATE 2004/12/04: Ok proof of concept works

Right I whacked up a proof of concept
href=”http://library.katipo.co.nz/cgi-bin/koha/opac-seach.pl”> here .
Its only working for title search so far, try a search for fush, or sole
music.

Good grief its December already.

Well it was a gorgeous day here in Wellington, lets hope the rest of the
month is as good. In random news today, the USA nearly beat Australia in
rugby league .. yes thats right, rugby league. They ran in the first 3 tries
stunning the aussies before australia remembered they are the world
champions and decided to play. In the end it was a win of only 36-24 to
Australia. All 7 people who know what league is (other than the coach and
team) in the US were probably really happy.

How to waste time, in 3 short steps

  1. Buy a cheap webcam from trademe
  2. Spend 2 hours getting it working
  3. Spend another hour scripting automatic updates to your blog

And there you have it a picture of a dog toy in your blog

UPDATE 2004/11/30: I changed it

Ok, its no longer just pointing at a dog toy, its now pointing at a panda
soft toy, with perhaps the biggest disproportionate head ever. Oh and you
can still see the dog toy off to the left.

As if you’d ever win the seat anyway … you crackers!

From Scoop
“The caucus agrees with a decision by the Party board that National will
campaign only for the party vote in the Maori electorates. We will not be
standing candidates in those seats.” says Dr Brash.

“National has a policy to wind up the Maori seats. That was the intention of
Parliament in 1867 when they were first established. As a party, we are
determined to deliver a process that gives all New Zealanders equality in
our democracy.”

He’s right too, they were meant to be temporary. What he neglects to mention
are the main reasons they were established. In 1867 the Government decided to
act, they were running out of excuses as to why they were denying Maori the
right to vote. So what they did, was create special seats, now on a
population basis the same as Pakeha representation, Maori should have had 15
seats; they were lucky to get four. Trying to pretend the seats are about
special rights is downright dishonet. They were set up as a way to deny
Maori their full rights.
Theres no way National were gonna win one of the seats so its hardly going
to make any difference if they stand candidates or not. Its just another
chance for Brash to court the uneducated redneck cracker moron vote.

Its 10.43am and already 4 things have broken

Its gonna be one of those days I can tell. Ah well, at least they were all
pretty easily fixable. On the plus side Laurel won us tickets to go see
Garden State tonight so thats good. Zach Braff is in Melbourne doing promo
work for said film today, and then he is on his way to NZ. Hopefully he
comes to Wellington, that’d be kinda cool.
Right back to work I go.
