DesktopBSD

I have installed this on my laptop, the install was a breeze. Getting the
wifi going was a bit of a trick, but its all working now.
Im fighting with Xorg a little to see if i can get the synaptics touchpad to
not be quite as sensitive. Apart from that im pretty happy with it.

We don’t have a prize for you, because you didn’t win, sorry.

Another week, another big pile of work to deal with, its better than being
bored though, and it is interesting work.
Telstraclear seem to have fixed whatever the problem was with their router
talking to Motorola 5100 cable modems. So it appears I have a stable net
connection again, which is all good.

Nothing but problems

So the last few days, my cable modem has decided to just stop working for
periods of time. Apparently its a known issue and TelstraClear are working
on it. In the meantime, they have resolved another issue, and now want to
charge me an extra $30 on this months bill, since they forgot to charge me
rental on the cable modem for the last three months.
Which is now about as reliable as a piece of wet string.
And another thing ive been ‘renting’ this cable modem for years now. Which
would be fine if it was my choice .. but no, you cant buy a cable modem, you
have to rent it. If there was any viable broadband in my area, theyd be
goneburger in about 10 seconds.

Home again

Well dinner last night with Jon ‘Maddog’ Hall and a couple of others, (its
not often you get to bend the ear of a living legend while eating fish and
chips at cobb and co) and then a helicopter ride this morning with Mark
Shuttleworth, ive arrived back in Wellington rather shellshocked. But with
piles of ideas to try out. I was on TV3 last night, but I have no idea what
I said so if anyone taped it, let me know.
