Git Stats

Ive been playing with git stats, here are the stats for Koha from

1999-10-22 to 2000-10-12

And

2000-12-20 to now

So we are missing about 4 months, (we started about august 1999) and november 2000 and most of december.

Interesting stats (well interesting to me anyway)

  • 775 + 560 = 1335 commits by me
  • 356 + 2879 = 3235 days working on Koha for me
  • November 2007 was the biggest month for commits with 558
  • There have been 760 + 9148 = 9908 commits .. so we should hit our 10,000th commit pretty soon

    BibLibre installs Koha for free at a Training Centre

    From this post http://abesformation.wordpress.com/2008/11/12/koha-un-outil-de-formation/ and from talking to one of the guys from BibLibre, I gather that BibLibre have installed Koha for free at a training centre.

    So this centre can now offer Koha training to it’s members. Koha will now serve as a framework for training librarians. Previously tools to train them, especially in cataloguing were lacking but since Koha supports the UNIMARC standard it allows librarians to train using real UNIMARC records and to learn practical hands on skills.

    As far as I can tell from my limited french and the help of google translate, BibLibre will be maintaining the installation at no cost as well.

    A great idea, and kudos to BibLibre for doing this.

    Rosalie Blake is now a LIANZA Fellow

    Huge congratulations to Rosalie Blake, Head Librarian at Horowhenua Library Trust, who has been awarded a Lianza fellowship.

    A fellowship is the highest level of professional attainment awarded by the Association. It is only awarded to a personal member of the Association who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of librarianship and/or information management through a sustained record of achievements, or who has demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership, teaching or research

    The Horowhenua Library Trust is best known however, for its innovation under Rosalie Blake’s leadership – it is the first library to win two LIANZA 3M awards for innovation in libraries: in 2000 for Koha, an open source integrated library management system, and again in 2007 for Kete, an open source do-it-yourself framework on which to build a digital community archive and gallery of arts, culture and heritage resources, and which anyone in the community can easily use.

    So yay Rosalie, yay all the people at HLT, and yay Koha and Kete.

    Three French Universities select Koha

    Some good news from BibLibre

    BibLibre announced that three French University libraries have selected Koha for their next ILS. The libraries for the universities of Marseille in France will switch to Koha. They are: Université de Provence, Université Paul Cézanne and Université de la Méditerranée, all in the Marseille area. The libraries will merge their catalogs, currently in a Horizon, Vubismart and Loris system respectively, and switch to Koha. The new catalog will have more than 750.000 items. The libraries have contracted with BibLibre for data migration, support and training on their Koha system. They also contracted with BibLibre to further develop Koha to enhance it’s functionalities.

    Koha Roles for the 3.2 release

    On Saturday morning NZ time, a significant number of the Koha developers met on #koha, on irc.katipo.co.nz to discuss people to fill the roles for 3.2

    A quick summary is

    • 3.2 Release Manager – Galen Charlton, LibLime
    • Translation Manager – Chris Cormack, Catalyst
    • Documentation Manager – Nicole Engard, LibLime
    • 3.0 Release Maintainer – Henri-Damien Laurent, BibLibre

    QA Manager is still to be filled.

    As well as these roles filled several other decisions were made

    •  Galen will set up gitosis on git.koha.org to allow Henri-Damien to push patches to the 3.0.x branch.
    •  Henri-Damien announced that minor revisions of 3.0.x will be packaged and released every two months.
    • Galen announced a date of 10 October 2008 for the developers to complete review of the RFCs for 3.2.  I will also send out another schedule proposal for the 3.2 development cycle.

    My first task is going to be setting up a populated pootle and getting some people using it. I plan to work on that this evening
