It started with a late finish from work on Friday, we didn’t get back to Wellington until about 7.30pm. I then met up with Laurel at Melissa’s farewell drinks at the Good Luck Bar.

But then when I got home at 11pm I still had some work to do for the library. Plus some work for the Horowhenua Library Trust also. So I went to bed around 1am.

I was up again at 7am to be ready for the library to open and keep an eye on how they went on their first day of using Koha fulltime. It went pretty well, so by 1pm I decided it was safe to stop watching.

That evening I went down to Waitangi park to watch the Matariki concert. It was a great line up, The Maori Volcanics, Whirimako Black, and finishing up with Katchafire. It was freezing but there was fry bread, soup, hangi and coffee to keep yourself warm with.

Then it was off to Matt’s for their midwinter Christmas party which was a lot of fun. Got home from that around 12.

And this morning I was up at 6.30am to head to the Hope Brothers pub to watch the Brazil vs France football match with Jeremy.

Consequently I’m pretty knackered now. Early night I think.

Although I spend 90% of my working life in my office at home, occasionally I need to work on site.

Sometimes you can’t beat being there and person and face to face. For example today I spent about 5.5 hours on site and got quite a lot done. It would have still been about 5.5 hours work, but it would have taken me at least 10 hours to do.

These last few days have been really cold, I’m hoping this cold front blows over pretty soon. Theres only so many pairs of socks I can fit on my feet.

My mum tells me it is the seat you use when riding an elephant. So you can
stop searching already.

The wind is really starting to howl now, I’m hoping the fence will survive
it. Im gonna have to go look at the sea tomorrow, I bet there will be some
nice big swell. I wouldn’t want to be catching the ferry tonight or tomorrow.

Stupid jetlag, my head feels worse than yesterday today. Having real
problems concentrating today, it feels like im half asleep. I’ll try and
stay awake though so I sleep tonight and hopefully feel all good tomorrow.

Laurel and Tom went to see this exhibition which is set up on Santa Monica
beach. Laurel really liked it, she said “Its a really cool
installation/film/collection of photos of animals together with people.
Really powerful works in a beautiful setting, everyone there seemed pretty
transfixed by it all”.

So I went for a haircut this morning at Cut-n-go in Newtown and had the
fastest haircut Ive ever had. The guy started off with a straight razor and
a comb and just hacked big chunks of hair off, then speedy snipping with
scissors, followed up with a quick buzz with the clippers. I think it took
about 7 minutes all up. And it doesnt even look bad.

Laurel left today, to visit with her brothers on the way to meeting me in
France in early may. One of the reasons she is visiting LA on the way is
(apart from visiting her family of course) is to go to Coachella. I’m sure she will have a great
time.

UPDATE 2006/04/18: Shes landed

Laurel has just called to let me know shes arrived in LA

Well in the roof actually, we had the roof repaired which seems to have
introduced a hole. Consquently last night water came dripping out of the
light socket in my office and blew the fuse. The roofing guys came back
today and after looking around have discovered the hole and patched it. So
Ill give it a few more days to dry out before I try turning the light on
again.

UPDATE 2006/04/10: Looks like it fixed

Well it fair bucketed down last night, and no more water came through, so I
think it might be all fixed now. Well heres hoping anyway.
