Wings over Wairarapa

Apart from the big traffic snarl ups getting to and from the aerodrome, Wings over Wairarapa was a very fun day.

It was really hard to take photos with the digital camera, because it was so bright I couldnt see the lcd screen but a few turned out ok. The highlights of the show for me were the jets, the mustang and the Red Checkers.  The only criticism I’d have was there weren’t enough places to buy water from hence the queues to get a cold drink were pretty long.

Good things about the Bus Ride

One of my colleagues did a good post on bus etiquette and subsequently ended up on TV talking about it.
While everything he said was true, I actually usually quite enjoy my bus ride to and from work so I thought I’d do a little post about the things that make the ride fun.

  • Saying good morning to the people at the bus stop
  • Betting with the school kids whether the 722 school bus will get there before the number 4, I’m currently 15-2
  • Having a chat with one of the Buddhist monks on the way to work.
  • Looking over and noticing the person next to you is listening to the exact same song as you. (Ok this has only ever happened once, it was cool though)
  • Hitting shuffle and getting 11 awesome songs in a row (that’s pretty much the duration of the whole trip)

Rent a conversation

This is a kinda cool idea at the Wellington City Libraries, Living Libraries

From the website

Instead of borrowing a book, you can borrow a person for a 30-minute chat. The ‘Books’ are people you may not normally have the opportunity to talk to. Many of them may face negative stereotypes or prejudice within our community, and all of them have personal stories and experiences to share.

Things you see on your way to work

I suspect you are unlikely to see this elsewhere in the world, but today as I was walking from the bus stop up to the office. I looked out of the corner of my eye and noticed a very fit looking woman, who had obviously just stepped out of the configure gym, sitting on a bench eating a steak pie.

I guess its all about balancing that calorie intake with what you burn.

Using up my leave

Im officially on leave until the 3rd of March, when I start my new job at Catalyst IT. So far I’ve gotten in watching a cricket match, but I keep ending up doing work. I’ve been trying to tie up any loose ends and any work that was partially finished. Should have that all sorted by Monday I hope.

Hope to have a few beers with the guys on Friday evening, and then Manaia’s birthday party is on Saturday after which Kahurangi and I get to chill out at home while Laurel is off crafting. Should be a good weekend.
