Baby monitor overlap

Someone near us must have the same type of baby monitor as we do, or at least one that operates on the same frequency. Its bad enough to hear your own baby crying on the monitor but when you are picking up the neighbours too it gets confusing fast.
Mind you, the neighbours have a wailer .. it makes us appreciate the grunts and small yells Kahurangi makes.

Its a new record

5 days in a row that it hasn’t rained. It threatened to yesterday but didn’t and today is gorgeous blue sky. Kahurangi likes it so much he spent all yesterday afternoon smiling. He’s much happier now the humidity has gone.

I’m not sure what Kahurangi and Laurel are going to be doing today, they went out yesterday to get replcacement quotes for the things that were in the car that we don’t have receipts for. I think they might finish that off today, people are much more willing to take some time and write up a quote when Kahurangi is there smiling at them. I’ll have to get him to do the negotiations at the car dealers, he can headbutt them (he enjoys doing that) if the price isn’t right.

Claim settled

Well the insurance claim for our stolen car has been settled, so time to buy a new car. We still have to finish dealing with the contents claim, but we are working on that now.

So now to figure out what car we will get, I want a station wagon, Laurel wants some kinda small SUV thing, like a CRV or RAV4. She will probably get to choose, because I dont really care, as long as its economic to run and has good space for the pram etc, it could be the ugliest car in the world and I wouldn’t mind.

Daaahhhhraaaammmaaaa

Out the ying yang. Ok, so this morning we took Laurels mom to the airport to catch her flight to Auckland and then to LA, only to find the airport was closed due to fog. So, after calling the toll free number and being told no flights until tomorrow at 2pm, I decided it was time to do some wheeling and dealing.
I managed to get Air New Zealand to rebook us on a flight from Palmerston North to Auckland at 1.45pm, which gave us 2.5 hours to get to Palmy … more than enough time, or so we thought. So Linda said goodbye to Laurel and Kahurangi, and Dad, Linda and I hit the road driving north. Unfortunately there was a fatal accident near Paekakariki, which slowed traffic to almost a standstill.
After it was clear there was no way we would make it to Palmy in time I pulled out the trusty cellphone again, and did my best sob story act. Managed to get Linda rebooked on the 5.05pm flight out of Palmerston North. So we kept on driving and got there with tons of time to spare, had something to eat, and sent her off to Auckland. Hopefully she made her flight to LA (they checked her and her bags all the way through so she should have).
Im fairly sure I spent 2.5 hours on the phone all up, but the result was good, maybe I should become a travel agent.

Some bastard stole my car

Well we had an interesting yesterday. Sometime monday night, some wanker stole our car complete with the pram (stroller for the americans) in it. 33 years and this is the first thing I’ve had stolen, and it and its contents were all insured. So in the bigger scheme of things, its not that bad, but it was hugely annoying.

So whoever nicked it is obviously an utter arsehat. We have a 7 day standdown on the insurance, to see if its found, and then if not, well new car time.

Babies everywhere

We just got back from our ante natal class reunion, only 4 couples left to go. So that meant there were 7 babies at the reunion, and all of them slept through the entire thing.I think it was mostly because it was really warm, so they just zonked out.

It was fun to catch up with everyone and see how everyone is doing. I don’t think anyones birth went to plan, but everyone is doing well anyway, and thats the main thing.

Next reunion in another 4 weeks time, so that should be good.

Iiiimmmmm gay and Other Events

So Kahurangi is learning how to cry a little more regularly, though the sounds are quite interesting. Most of the time it sounds something like mnngwaayyyy. However, variations sound just like “I’m gay” or “Go play” or “No way” “Good eh?”. A mix of guttural and Fonzie-esque. More popularly, he enjoys lots of grunting and groaning noises instead. You’d think he was in a ruck, but really, it’s usually trying push out a fart or two. We’ve been told by more than one mother and the doctors etc that he’s very strong for his age – can pretty much hold his head up on his own most of the time, and can push himself up on his arms on occasion. He is fond of doing dramatically loud stretches even in his sleep which we think is what makes him so strong.

He eats rather piggishly with lots of slurping and jumping around at the breast and goes something like a frantic and panting baby bird when anything brushes against his mouth, even when he’s not hungry. Also when he’s anywhere within a 3 foot radius of my boobs. This means when he’s with me, he’s most likely eating, thinking about eating, or pretending he’s eating. Which means that his vague and increasingly frequent smiles have been given only to his dad and his grandma. Maybe I’ll get a grin sometime before he’s 10. He also has the amazing talent of being able to either eat and fart or eat and burp at the same time – both usually resulting in him attempting to rip a nipple off as he and his gas dances around. The gas gets more smiles than any of us.

Today mom and I took him to his new GP today for his first set of injections and 6 week check up. I was very excited to see that on the list of things they check (lungs, heart, abdomen etc) that he had two checkmarks next to testicles. I thought he had exceptionally good balls, but alas, further down the list, I saw that they did two checks for anything that has two (i.e. eyes, hips etc). Funny to note that along with “Doing fabulously” and “settled baby”, that doctor also wrote “double chin”. So he’s a little fatty… shesh, does it need to go in his Plunket book?!!?!

I made it through the injections (barely a sniffle)… and oh yeah, Kahu’s fine too. 🙂 He gave the nurse the evils after the second one – progressing from the shocked wail after the first one. mMMmmgwayyyYy turned into WAHHHH WAHHHH WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH instead by the time the third shot was delivered. It all disapated pretty fast though and after a cuddle he pretty much went off to sleep until I decided to squirt him with Pamol, which of course I have no clue how much he actually had since a good bit went down his chin, neck and on his shirt. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t have any of the nasty potential reactions they berate you with at the doctor’s office. So far he just shrieks when he does his remarkable stretches with his newly sore legs.

Kahu’s grandma Linda is having a ball staring at him, giving cuddles and doing poop duty, and Chris and I are happy to have a little break in our new routine. I think they both will be sad when she has to go. He’s sure to make his first American trip sometime in the near future…
