Home again

Well dinner last night with Jon ‘Maddog’ Hall and a couple of others, (its
not often you get to bend the ear of a living legend while eating fish and
chips at cobb and co) and then a helicopter ride this morning with Mark
Shuttleworth, ive arrived back in Wellington rather shellshocked. But with
piles of ideas to try out. I was on TV3 last night, but I have no idea what
I said so if anyone taped it, let me know.

Last day of Conference

Today is the last day of conference, its been fantastic. I found out that
the NSW Judicial Commission are using Koha to run their library. So Koha
helps to run the Australian court system, thats all good. Plus the MySQL
people tracked me down and had a good chat with me about ways to optimise
Koha and tricks for making things run faster using the query cache in tricky
ways. Tomorrow the speakers get a Helicopter ride, then I’m flying back home.

Linux Conf AU

So next wednesday I’m giving a talk about Koha at the Linux Conference Australia 2006.
Which is actually being held in Dunedin New Zealand. Its going to be a
pretty general talk, as the audience are going to be Linux/FLOSS enthusiasts
rather than Librarians. I plan to cover the history of Koha, and some
anecdotes, and where to from here. So if you are going to be at the
conference, come along and have a listen 🙂

Koha

Have you seen my bag of money?

I left it in the parlour. It was your party and they were your friends. Listen to the song

We are suffering from the post holidays empty bank syndrome at the moment,
but a few weeks work should sort that out. It seems that my complaining
about it being to hot has resulted in revolting windy and rainy weather
instead now. Still that helps me stay inside and work more.

Back, and so is the blog

Well, it appears that while we were away the fan in my shuttle decided to
stop working so it overheated it shut itself down. Its up and running again,
with the case open and hopefully enough breeze to keep it from doing it again.

Since I last wrote on the blog, we have had xmas, visited Erie, I went to
Ohio, we flew out to LA, drove to Vegas and back, and then flew home.

Stuff has stopped falling from the sky

Well, the snow and sleet and rain and ice pellets have all stopped falling. So today we plan to leave the house and go down to Islay’s for breakfast, and then to the Mattress Factory (which is a museum that specialises in installation art). This weekend we have the Nieds xmas party, and the trans siberian orchestra to go too. So that should be fun. Then its probably off to Jersey for a few days before coming back to Pittsburgh for Christmas.
