Day 2

Seattle to Vancouver WA,

This morning we drove into Seattle and went to the Pike Place markets. I had
clam strips and fries for breakfast, Laurel stuck to the less adventurous
cheese toasted sandwich. After wandering around the markets for a while and
watching people throw salmon around (literally) we hit the road south.
Laurel was feeling to tired to drive by about Tacoma so I took over driving,
we left the interstate and headed out to highway 101 down the coast.
Stopping in Astoria for a look around and dinner. We then took highway 30
to Portland then on to Vancouver where we got completely lost looking for
the hotel.

According to the pedometer I walked 3307 steps today.
Oh btw the dodge sucked, the stereo was broken and the alignment was rooted,
so we traded it for some chevrolet car which drives much better.

Im Married!!

Well the wedding is all over now and I think it went pretty well. Everyone
seemed to have fun which is the main thing. It was great to see all our
friends from all over the place getting on well together.
We are off on our honeymoon now so I’m gonna keep a bit of a trip diary.

Seattle
We arrived here yesterday around 11.30am Pacific time, after spending the
day before trying to fit stuff in our packs, and running round saying good
bye to people. So we arrived having had 2 hours sleep and with a wicked lack
of caffeine headache (well I did anyway). We got our bags, walked around
trying to find the rental car desk .. we finally did (it was in another
whole building) and got ourselves some transport. We ended up with a dodge
grand caravan for the same price as a full size ( 4 free upgrades) people
like honeymooners it seems 🙂
We then checked into our hotel and fell asleep, woke up, ate mexican food,
swam in the pool, and fell asleep again.
Our next destination is Vancouver Washington (just north of Portland) by way
of the coast. We’ll probably put some photos up then.

The Kerry vs Bush bumper sticker pole

One of the other things im doing to amuse myself is trying to use bumper
stickers to gauge the support for each of the candidates.

The Great Chocolate Milk taste test

So my latest idea is try every brand of chocolate milk I can find in the
USA. So far i’v only tried 2.

  1. Hersheys Creamy Chocolate
  2. Berkeley Farms Milk Chug

I’m sure I can find a couple more today. I’m not sure what our plan is
today, Laurel is still sleeping with a bit of a sore tummy, I think shes not
used to american food/portions anymore. So I’m gonna go for a bit of a
wander around and see what I can see.

Wifi in San Francisco

Well starbucks may be the scourge of the coffee drinkers world, but they are
certainly handy for getting an internet connection. Currently i’m sitting in
a starbucks outside SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) while Laurel
wanders around the Museum.
The flight over was pretty good, Laurel and I got block of 4 seats to
ourselves so that was good. And Immigration and customs were a tonne easier
and faster then Hell A X.
This morning we wandered around Chinatown which is a lot like wandering
around Shanghai. Not sure what we are doing this evening probably trying to
catch up on some sleep.

Mallard wins again.

Trevor Mallard, the minister of Education and Race Relations, and a
complete arsehat has today taken a big swipe at maori culture and values.

Mr Mallard also had issues with the way some immersion or bilingual units at
mainstream schools operated.

“In a small number of cases principals have not been able to supervise these
units effectively because they have been shut out of the classrooms because
they cannot speak Maori.

“This is unacceptable. Principals have to be able to exercise leadership
across the school.

Ive got a solution for you then, you moronic arsehat. How about the cracker
principals learn to speak Maori. After all it is an official language.
He also had this other gem “What ran through my mind was the number of
powhiri I attend at co-ed schools where female students . unlike at Sacred
Heart College . are relegated to a supporting role.”
Drivel, without
females a powhiri cant start and it cant end. I call that pretty damn crucial.

Trevor Mallard and all the rest of the redneck crackers, if you dont
like Maori culture and Maori values .. go live somewhere else.

Lots of Koha developments

We had a really productive koha development team meeting on irc the other day.
You can read the log of the meeting here .
The main points are.

  • Paul will become release maintainer for the 2.2 series
  • MJ Ray will continue to maintain 2.0.x until at least 2.2.1
  • Emiliano and his team have agreed to become the release managers for the
    2.4 series
  • Russel is our new QA Manager
  • Rachel is our new Kaitiaki

So its all go in Koha land.

Only 1 working day left

So much to do and only one working day left to do it all. Ah well, ill just
have to do as much as I can and hope nothing top urgent crops up.
At least we seem to have everything pretty much sorted for the wedding,
things keep clicking into place and we’ve yet to have a big drama. Perhaps
we should write a book on how to organise a wedding from 14436 km’s away.
