I did some work a while back to integrate Kea and Koha for the LGNZ site. This allows them to use the Kea
Content Management system to add documents (be they html, pdf whatever) to
their website and Koha to catalogue them.
Ive since got this working for the Katipo Koha now as well. It seems to
work pretty well, so my plan now is to document what I did so that it can be
done with other CMS systems as well if people want.
So Mallard thinks Pakeha are indigenous to NZ does he?
I guess he’s going from the dictionary definition. Which is fine, as long as
he isn’t trying to imply that they still aren’t bound by the Treaty.
Personally when I think indigenous I think of the UN definition
“Indigenous communities, peoples and nations are those which, having a
historical continuity with pre-invasion and pre-colonial societies that
developed on their territories, consider themselves distinct from other
sectors of the societies now prevailing in those territories, or parts of
them.”
Which is what Maori are and will always be, and pakeha will never be in NZ.
The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
As always a hugely enjoyable read, and a great way to spend the trans tasman
flight. It certainly beats the shite that they were pretending was a movie,
or eating the shite they were trying to convince us was food. I remember
back in the day, Air New Zealand used to win awards for its food and wine
service, now its worse than the food they used to serve in the hostel
kitchens of uni in the last term when they had blown the budget.
Anyway this isnt supposed to be a rant about crap airline food, but rather
to say that this a book thats well worth reading.
Motivation
Im having a real struggle at the moment to get motivated to do anything. I
think its the crap weather, I really dont want to do anything except go to
bed with a good book. Hopefully i’ll snap out of it in the next few days.
Horrible network performance tonight.
Well, the screen server crashed, and now my network connection has decided
to go mental.
And as I right this, it decides to make a liar out of me and come right.
Still when it wasnt working it wasnt pretty, look at that average time

Godsend
We saw this in Brisbane, it was pants, complete pants. Lots of holes in the
plot and the continuity was horrible. Probably about the worst De Niro film
I have ever seen.
Brisbane Trip
Heres a brief travelogue of our recent Brisbane excursion.
We flew out of freezing cold Wellington on Thursday night, and landed in
Brisbane just after 12am friday morning. It may have been the middle of the
night but it was still 4 degrees warmer than the high in Wellington.
We caught a taxi to our hotel, the Astor Metropole, which was right in
downtown brisbane. Once we had checked in, we piled into bed and slept till
about 9 the next morning.
We then wandered down through the town to pick up our rental car and headed
out to the burbs to go shopping at IKEA. After that we parked the car back
at the hotel and checked out the malls. Lots of good shopping to be had in
Brisbane and with the NZ dollar nice and strong, lots of bargains as well.
Saturday we headed north up the sunshine coast to check out Australia Zoo.
Tons of fun, it was Bindi’s 6th birthday which meant that Steve Irwin the
crocodile hunter himself was there. CRIKEY!!!!
Sunday we spent the day at Dreamworld and the evening at the final big
brother eviction. Fun, if slightly mad.
Lots of photos
here
Back home in the cold.
Back from a fun time in Brisbane, back in the freezing cold Wellington.
Can’t say im happy to be back, its good to see the pets again though.
The break was just what was needed, photos will be posted and a short
travelogue in a little bit.
Kirikiti
If NZ Cricket are going to take our boxing day test away from us. How about
we try and organise a game of Kirikiti instead. Chris Noble has a fantastic photo
of a game in action in Samoa.
Off in search of warmth.
We are off to find warmer climes for a few days, and to just get away from
it all. Should be fun, no thinking about work allowed.
