A really fun film, with fantastic animation. Its an adaptation of a classic
childrens book that is very popular in the US, or at least thats what laurel
tells me. I thoroughly recommend it for anyone in the need of a bit of
escapism or a chuckle.

Prozac Nation
Who decides to make these movies … seriously, there must be better books
to make into movies than these. Im pretty sure the entire movie was just a
cleverly disguised advertisement for prozac .. or not even cleverly
disguised. If its possible for an autobiographical movie to be formulaic,
then this was. Right down there with Sylvia, dont bother.
Sylvia
In a word “don’t”. In a few more words, this was one of the most boring
films I have ever seen. Within 15 minutes of it starting, i’d got distracted
and started playing games. By about 30 minutes Laurel had fallen asleep and
I had tuned it out and was engrossed in Guild Wars. Its the kind of film you
don’t even hope will get better because you know it won’t. So .. just
“don’t” 🙂
Ratrace
A good old fashioned, silly, comedy romp. Lots of laughs, no themes, no
messages, just pure entertainment. Next time you’re bored on a rainy
afternoon, grab the DVD of this, and have a laugh.
The Seven Samurai
I saw the Magnificent Seven on MGM the other day, and it reminded me how
much I liked the original, The Seven Samurai. So when I saw it on special at
blockbuster I bought the DVD, and I am glad I did. So i’m on the hunt now to
find more Kurosawa movies on dvd to build a bit of a collection.
Amistad
We watched this movie tonight. It wasn’t the first time either of us had seen
it but we could only remember the plot outline. I’m glad we got it out
again, its a great film kinda slow but very good nonetheless.
The Girl next Door
Suprisingly not complete bollocks. We were just going to watch a movie
because we were tired of walking around, and this was all that was on. It
was far less formulaic than I thought it would be, it was really quite
enjoyable.
No Mans Land
My parents recommended this to me when we were fixing the fence that the
wind had trashed. Im glad I got it out, a great film that explores the
absurdities of modern day warfare. Set in the bosnian conflict it follows
the story of 3 soldiers trapped in no mans land, 2 bosnians and a serb. And
the completely ineffective and hamstrung UN. Depressing as are all films
exploring the depths of human stupidity, but a great film nonetheless.
So im done watching movies today, I now have some rugby games, a league
game, and a pile of Olympics to watch.
Touching the Void
A thoroughly excellent film. Even though you know the ending its
spellbinding and compelling watching. The scenery is magnificent, and I
really like the camera angles. The fact that its a true story makes it even
more amazing. Well worth seeing on a big screen.
Godsend
We saw this in Brisbane, it was pants, complete pants. Lots of holes in the
plot and the continuity was horrible. Probably about the worst De Niro film
I have ever seen.
