C’mon people don’t we have a few things a little more important to talk
about than this?
Perhaps we should try and decide what this country is going to be like
before we choose a new flag to represent it.

My house is full of women!!
Laurel has organised the TLC extramural departments meeting to be at our
house today. Its jam packed full of artists / art teachers.
They bought nice food though so I dont mind.
WTF ??
Ok, I just watched Donnie Darko .. and im puzzled by two things, well a lot
more than two things, but two main things.
- What the hell was that all about?
- Why did I like it so much?
Fantastic feed of Mussels
Russ has put up the recipe for
the fantastic feed of mussels he cooked for us on saturday night. Give it a
whirl, it was delicious.
Tired but Happy.
Well installed knoppix on Russ’s
machine with no real hitches. Knoppix Is pretty
fantastic with its hardware detection. Everything just works.
Then we were treated to a great game of rugby. All blacks vs the Pacific
Islanders. Which the All Blacks won, but which was much closer than a lot of
people might have thought which im glad about, as I think the concept of
Pacific Islanders team is a great one.
Then we beat Australia in basketball, a great turn around from the 30 point
thrashing we’d received the night before.
And to cap it all of, Daniel Vettori had a blinder and we beat the West
Indies in a NatWest ODI cricket final.
Small Horse to you Daniel.
Well I call that a landslide.
The
By-election results are in. And the Maori party and Tariana Turia not
suprisingly cleaned up. If I was labour id be worried, theyve pretty much
thrown away 7 safe seats. Not to mention the list vote.
Gimps
I stand corrected.
Owen tells me that the speed increase they are seeing at NPL is due to tweaks
Joshua has made to the mysql configuration. Yay Joshua. So thats all good. I
suggested that when the replication is all working as well it might be even
faster, which worried Owen slightly.
<owen:#koha> If it gets any faster, it’ll travel back in time! What
if Koha travels back in time and kills chris! A paradox will destroy the
universe!
Im hoping Joshua will see this and post a link to his documentation for the
tweaks 🙂
No I wont diagnose your network problems!
With help from my dad and Rachel, we now have a tshirt available from
cafepress. Here it is
Wear it with pride, promoting the use of Te Reo, and also saving
yourself from have to fix other peoples problems 🙂
Home, Land and Sea
The title track for the album of the same name from Trinity Roots. Is a haunting song with challenging lyrics. I think especially poignant at this time, which I feel is a pivotal period in New Zealands history, and the decisions made in the next few years will decide how our descendants judge this generation.
“From the tail of the fish to the tip, many all around this world want a piece of this land. Seems like nothing, nothing no is gonna stop it, I know it, I can feel it.”
Koha and MySQL Replication
NPL have had some good success with this, Owen says it feels like a 1000% improvement in the circulations when all the opac catalog searching is being done on a slave database. I might talk to them about writing up a bit of a How-to. For big libraries it definitely is the way to go. (It has the added benefit of doing realtime back ups too).
